Steely Dan in Glasgow 20 Feb

My main Christmas present was tickets to see and hear one of my musical heroes, Donald Fagen. Steve Winwood will be there too. Anybody from here going?

Re: What did you listen to today!

My neighbour gave me a CD with two albums by Principal Edwards Magic Theatre. Prog from late 60ies very sweet in some places, absolutely awful in others. Interesting document of its time. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Principal_Edwards_Magic_Theatre https://rarerecordcollector.files.wordpress.com/20...

Spirit of Skye Festival

Since moving to Skye I found myself a part-time job, after six years of early retirement. I work as the Arts Programme Manager for the Aros Centre in Portree. Members who like a tipple, and everybody else, might be interested in the new Spirit of Skye Festival that we are organising on 16 & 17 J...

Re: Did you ever see your musical hero(es)

Saw Zappa only once, in 1975 in Rotterdam. Saw Joe Zawinul twice, once in Amsterdam in the 70ies with Weather Report and once in New Delhi with Zakir Hussain. Saw Jean-Luc Ponty one in the 70ies in Paradiso, Amsterdam, when he played most of Aurora with Patrice Rushen on keyboards or and Daryll Stue...

Re: Something Positive

I am really glad that we have reached the end of a month or two of decluttering/downsizing/cleaning in preparation for selling our house in Lancashire. It is a lovely place and we have enjoyed our 20 years here, but the call of Skye is too loud. If anybody is interested in a 4 bedroomed Victorian se...

Re: What did you listen to today!
heard the witness film music today again by Maurice jarre
Probably my favourite film score ever. The music is very good on it's own, but it also adds so much to the visuals. The raising of the barn scene and the bit where the baddies come to look for them on the farm are ...

Van Den Hul The Second - New Price!

I have now for sale, as they are surplus to requirements, a pair of Van Den Hul The Second interconnects. They have RCA (phono) plugs, are 80cm. long and in good condition. I could try to impress you with the specifications, but I don't claim to even understand all of them. All I can say is that the...

Re: What did you listen to today!

I forgot about this band and had not listened to it for ages. Looked it up in Wikipedia: "Condon wrote The Rip Tide while he spent six months in isolation living in a Bethel, New York winter cabin." The environment in which it was written seems to have had some influence on the music: slow...

Re: What did you listen to today!

Donald Fagen - Sunken Condos (2012) Quality music from the master, but I feel he needs to find a new direction for his next album. If he continues to mine this seam of inspiration he is in danger of becoming a bit 'samey' and predictable. If the intervals between his previous albums is anything to g...

Uncle Meat

Just got hold of a copy of Uncle Meat. Always wanted to see that film. I think I would have appreciated it more when I just got into Zappa, but it is still good. Lots of Conceptual Continuity going on. Not very strong on plot, but great on atmosphere, sexual gratification, props and general weirdnes...
