Re: Cyrus 1 or 3

The older Cyrus amps seem to keep their value well, and I suspect the main reason is the fact that they have a decent quality phono section built in. It never ceases to amaze me how much broken ones sell for on Ebay!

Re: BelCanto CD2- SQ tweak

Of course, yes, the way in which the less-reflective parts are created is different, but I thought you were implying that the way in which the data is formatted is different. If so, you would be right, in that commercially-made CDs sometimes stretch/break the boundaries of the standards in their eff...

In what way?

(other than the fact that CD-R's have lower reflectivity)

Re: BelCanto CD2- SQ tweak

Surely that should be easy to test, though? Just get a WAV file, burn it to CD, rip it from CD, bit-for-bit compare the two. I've done tests of that type in the past, and have always been surprised at how robust and error free the process is (or at least was in the case of the very ordinary kit that...

Re: a petition that already has 3.3 million signatures

It's interesting to look at the petition vote map, to see some big differences. I guess you should expect that, but if you look at some areas of Birmingham, only a little over 1% of the constituents have signed, but if you look at South Cambridgeshire, almost one eighth of the constituents have alre...

12 hours on and another half million people have signed.

I was one of them - not that I think that it will change anything if I do...

Re: Wanted -- Benchmark DAC 1 HDR

I always approach ebay with the view that Im paying 10% to ebay/paypal which the seller is including in his price. It may be true, but when negotiating a price, it's worth remembering that Ebay have very frequent "£1 max fees" promotions these days - which if you're selling a £600 DAC mak...

Re: Wilmslow ATC SCM100 (K100) + Hypex Fusion?

In fairness to Timbre (who I know nothing about other than seeing his username) it looks like one of his FA122s went faulty, so it seems he would have to wait for Hypex to turn around a replacement. I had concluded the same - that I could probably get by with the FA123 (the 125W version) but I would...

Re: Tri-wiring Ruark Crusader IIs from 82 DAC Qx(R)

As above, tri amping might be worth it, or it might not, depending on how it's implemented by Ruark in the crossover. I've tried bi amping in lesser speakers (Mission) and didn't like the result, but you won't know until you try. Tri wiring - probably not. If your aim is to get more cross-sectional ...

Re: Wilmslow ATC SCM100 (K100) + Hypex Fusion?

I was watching this pair of SCM40 actives which finished last week: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/183687448071/ Bit cheaper than £6800, but still pretty expensive. £500-700 for your MkI passives is not exactly generous, given you can get over £1k on Ebay any time you like! Where does Timbre purport to ...

Re: Wilmslow ATC SCM100 (K100) + Hypex Fusion?

So you're looking to buy Timbre's modules? It's a shame you're not modding the Kef's, but it makes sense to start with something more modest. I've abandoned the thought of finding some bashed-about SCM100's to use as a basis - frankly everything with the ATC brand name on it retains its value too we...

Re: Wilmslow ATC SCM100 (K100) + Hypex Fusion?

Oh FFS - how does anyone ever get any useful info out of DIYAudio? The main Fusion amp thread continues to be almost nothing to do with Fusion Amps. It seems to be almost entirely populated by a small number of people trying to score points against one another. DS23man would be useful (as he seems t...

Re: hi im new and need help

TBH I don't think we've ever had any forum members who do work like that on a commercial basis. I occasionally work on Cyrus products, but only for myself - I don't have any form of liability insurance so I won't touch other people's stuff. IMO it's a sad state of affairs, but manufacturers in gener...

Re: hi im new and need help

No, Cyrus will no longer work on a III or 3i. You would have to find an independent, like the one already suggested (who I have no experience of, I should add, for accuracy).

Re: hi im new and need help

No - they are still quite sought after because they were (I think) the last generation of Cyrus integrated amps that had a phono stage built-in, and they sound good - so repair is probably still an option worth looking into. People tend not to like working on them because they were the first generat...
