Re: Original Cyrus One ,mission speakers

I reckon you should be looking for a pair of the original 78x series - maybe the 781 or even the 782, which IIRC had two bass drivers with the tweeter in between. They were very early 80's style, with graphics to match, though they don't seem to come up for sale very often.

Re: Connecting PSX to Cyrus Two

I'm not 100% sure as I don't have any documentation to hand, but I think that the one bit of the C2 that won't work without both mains connections in place is the phono stage. However, I'm also fairly sure that the LED on the front should light up - so it sounds as though it could be faulty (unless ...

I've seen these before, but as far as I could see there isn't any similarity at all to any Cyrus amp that I've seen - I think they are just using the name because it's well known.

Re: Cyrus PRE or ACA7

Sorry, don't have either, nor a circuit diagram, but IIRC the Pre had a motorised volume control, didn't it? The only one that did? If that's correct, I would think that one of the ACA's would be a better choice, because they use the "gain cell" controls, which ~should~ (in theory) be more...

Re: Bulb Energy - Green Energy Supplier £50 cash back link

There's a long thread on MSE which seems to show a familiar pattern: new company starts out well, and then 2 years down the line it starts to go pear-shaped: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.php?t=5382226 I'm currently with Avro, who seem Ok. The problem with the system at present (IM...

Re: DacXP Signature Problem

I've also owned lots of Cyrus gear over many years (currently I have 21 Cyrus boxes) and I think I've only had one device (an MR3) fail while in my ownership! Having said that, I've also bought quite a few broken Cyrus units - either to repair them myself or to have them repaired by Cyrus - so I've ...

Re: Lost bass on CD sig

The CDxt is a transport only isn't it, so I guess it must be connected to a DAC somewhere? It's not possible to "lose bass" in the digital domain, so it must be happening in the DAC. If you have a Cyrus DAC, this is a known problem and there have been several other threads describing it. A...

Re: Boris

Sorry - I'm not suggesting that he would lose, except in the specific case that angelfaces poses, which I think is that he calls an election with such timing that parliament is in purdah on the 31st October and so can do nothing to prevent exit without a deal. I think (hope) that he would lose if he...

Re: Boris

Wouldn't that make him the shortest serving British PM ever (sorry can't be bothered to look it up)?

I can't see his level of ambition allowing him to call an election that he would be near certain to lose, as everyone would see that the election had been called purely in order to subvert democracy.

Re: Serious speaker help!

I hope you take this in the spirit intended (i.e. intended to be helpful, not to criticise): is there any chance that you inadvertently wired the mid/high side out of phase on the PMC's? I did this a few years back and the effect was weird, and caused a big reduction in the midrange unless you got r...

Re: Boris

I agree - I have two friends who are police officers, and both are unhappy about their work because they have too little time to do any one thing properly. But it should have been announced as new Conservative government policy, by the minister responsible, and not by a freshly-crowned (rather than ...

Re: Boris

As recently observed by Putin (who should know about these things), the era of rational, moderate, measured politics is dead - we are now in the era of populist politics. Trump says he will "make America great again, Putin says he will "make Russia great again". Johnson is just follow...

Re: What are the advantages of separately powering your tweeters?

It's probably going to help if you provide a link to an example of what you mean. As far as I'm aware, the NCxxx products are all mono amplifier modules in one configuration or another. I've got a pair of NC500 based monoblocks and they have no facility to separately amplify a tweeter channel. Are y...

Re: Cyrus ONE, issue 07 remove steps on volume/balance pot

I wonder if it would be a fairly easy operation to remove the sprocket like wheel on the back of the combined Vol/balance control pot in my old Cyrus One? If it's the same as on the Cyrus Two - yes, it should be almost trivial. You should be able to lift one end of the spring that sits under the ba...
