How long is quite long, as a matter of interest? If they are a decent price I guess I could cut them down! If you think that's an option, please PM me a price and I'll get back to you. Thanks!

Re: Op-amp Tweaking

A large part of the decision to go with Apollon was based on the favourable feedback here! It seems to be widely held that the Apollon is a "copy" of the Nord, but as I understand it the only bit of each that doesn't come direct from Hypex are the input buffer boards, and in both cases the...

No - actually I only need them short. I think the current ones are 750mm, which is easily enough.

Haven't tried, to be honest. I can't think of any reason why there should be any difference with the short lengths I am using, though.

Re: Broken X Power

Is this a fair and honest description of this item on ebay? 'Listing for 1 x faulty Cyrus X Power stereo power amplifier (switchable to mono) in silver. Removed working and stored for a few months then failed to switch on when I set back up. Without PSXR flashes red after initial power on sequence ...

Re: Op-amp Tweaking

Thanks Ian. No, I'm not sure, and in fact having listened and swapped the £2 for the £60 op-amps a few times, I'm fairly sure the op-amp effect is below my threshold of detection. I've pretty much made up my mind not to spend £200 "upgrading" the op-amps to Sonic Imagery 994s - I know they...

Re: Op-amp Tweaking

That's the problem with subjective terms like "warm" - in sonic terms it doesn't mean the same thing to any two people! Some reviewers have mentioned slightly different bass with the Sparkos op-amps, but mainly they say the difference is very subtle, so perhaps it's too subtle for my ears...

Op-amp Tweaking

Yes, I know - it's supposed to be called "rolling", and the "rolling your own" analogy sort of works with cylindrical things like valves, but it doesn't really with op-amps, IMO. Anyway, I recently bought a pair of Hypex NC500-based monobocks by Apollon. Originally I wanted to ma...

Re: I'm running Everything On Batteries, Power supply

Yes, I was a little concerned as to how clean the power from my inverter would be. I was of the opinion that being off grid takes out noise from the grid. Without some pretty expensive analytical equipment there's no way of knowing how much noise there is on the grid where it enters your home. In m...

Re: I'm running Everything On Batteries, Power supply

I believe that the "running on batteries" idea is meant to be based on driving the audio equipment straight off battery DC. In your situation you're actually passing the battery DC into an inverter that simulates the mains AC power supply network, and then running that through the mains po...

Re: Speaker Cables and XLR

Purely as an experiment, it would be interesting to go the opposite way from the "thicker and shorter" principle that has been advocated by CU members such as IanMac (and me) for years. It would be interesting to buy two 50m reels of the thinnest "bell wire" speaker cable you can...

Yes, I'm looking at the same myself. I ~think~ the 12V trigger option might be possible there too, but only by special order.

Re: Speaker Cables and XLR

Has anybody else noticed any difference with shortening the speaker cables? As above, there's been a lot of threads here about that - and about increasing the speaker cable gauge (within reason) if you're in a situation where you can't make them short. Either is worth doing IMO. There isn't so much...

4 speaker terminals offering side and end connectors. Unlike Cyrus products, the speaker terminals have both screw-down turrets and 4mm banana sockets in the top, so you can use spade terminals as well as / instead of bananas. The contact surface area of a spade terminal is typically much greater t...

Re: Cyrus 3 - Chip Reprogramme

Given that you don't have a functioning one to copy from, I doubt there is any way other than by asking Cyrus. In the past they have been helpful with things like that, but last time I needed to was years ago. All you can do is ask them - I suspect that they will just decline on the basis that it's ...
