Re: 4TB NAS & Intel Micro PC Combo

It's the DC53427HYE... the shiny smooth black one with one USB at the front and a discreet power button. The graphics on it whatever they are, are amazing. I ran a 30" dell monitor alongside 2x 24" panels at full resolution for a while. The barebones chassis was £375, bought at around this...

4TB NAS & Intel Micro PC Combo

I've replaced my video streaming setup with a portable USB drive and raspberry pi 2 for the time being, so up for grabs is my NAS and Intel NUC micro PC as I need a new 3D printer for a job i have going on. NAS - Synology DS212J with MinimServer (uPNP audio streamer) and latest DSM version installed...

Re: Hi performance compact camera needed

Interestingly he recommends the RX100 as the best pocket camera full stop :)

Re: Thommy DDDAC build

My single deck has now been rebuilt and is one mod away from being finished. I have split the ground plane across the centre of the DAC pcbs, separating the digital noise from the analogue side of the DAC. I then fed 12 volts directly to the analogue side, and replaced the board mounted regulators w...

Re: Hi performance compact camera needed

Boom. Thanks Markus, something specific to look at that meets the requirements. I had not thought of Sony as a decent camera brand but the RX100 is now top of my list and there are plenty changing hands within my budget.

Re: Backup DAC that is also a soundcard
so it can take 24/96 toslink as an input
Not misunderstanding, just misreading. Doh! You want to capture the PCM output of the SACD player, makes more sense now. The only thing you'll be exposed to is jitter depending on the interface used but that should make very goo...

Re: Backup DAC that is also a soundcard

RME are one of the few audio interface manufacturers that use truly high end D/A & A/D converters so if that's the route you want to go down the Babyface is a pretty good recommendation. However there has to be a better way of ripping SACD than resampling it from analogue back to digital.  ...

Hi performance compact camera needed

I know there are a few photographers on here so I'm looking for some advice on choosing a new camera after my last was stolen. I'm not into DSLRs as I don't need another hobby, the last camera was a Nikon P310 and the replacement needs to be similar. I'm taking mostly technical pictures of man made ...

Re: Thommy Hypex nCore build

Received a brand new amp today, all of the capacitors are different to my other one. I hope that they sound the same!  ???

Re: Thommy Hypex nCore build

Well the amp & SMPS went to Hypex HQ 16 days ago via tracked Airmail. Whilst their service is great they don't update customers via email at any point in the process. However, I checked the status of the RMA this morning to find this comment: "One LED was broken. Unit replaced. SMPS is fine...

Re: Touchscreen valve amp

Yesterday I added a Lightspeed LDR attenuator and a DCB1 direct-coupled FET buffer stage. http://s3.postimg.org/p66hzh7z7/P1040749.jpg Now I can turn the Johnson noise (background hum) down which helps things. The buffer has matched the impedance between source and amp smoothing out dynamics and fre...

Re: Touchscreen valve amp

http://s29.postimg.org/qo7svedk7/P1040746.jpg Rebuilt the amp yesterday. Much neater job, sounds a little tighter and apart from the signature single-ended hum is pretty quiet. Have experimented a little with the cathode capacitor on the EL34 output tube. Increasing the value from 47uF to 100uF has...

Re: DIY Valve Amplifier

Hiya Kevin, Welcome to the DIY room! You can't get much better than an Audio Note kit and I don't have any experience of kit building but I'm sure that there are much better value for money ways of getting a valve amp. Like you I have built the DDDAC and the nCore, plus a few power supplies but not ...
