Re: NAS Advice

Possibly another contentious issue but yes, I happen to believe (as an ex-PC technician) that even the most humble laptop, PC, or NAS is fully capable of performing the job of audio server, and a faster unit, faster drives etc will make no difference at all, so I agree with Attonine.

Re: Roon Musings

My impression of Roon is that there's an awful lot of messing about involved for little gain over other simpler configurations.

Re: StreamX and radio

In the end I 'bit the bullet' and had my StreamX software updated.
No problems so far - it seems to actually do radio better than with Tunein and easier to save favourites.

fyi the latest software version (assuming that's what they gave me) is 4.3

Re: StreamX versus Auralic G1

...and finally... I got the StreamX firmware updated, which gives me radio and Qobuz..
Happy (for a while anyway).

Re: StreamX versus Auralic G1

D'oh - I remembered I still had my old NP30 in the cupboard.

I've hooked that up to the system, and it gives me better radio access than my Cyrus used to, via a remote
(and for radio 3 at least, the sound quality is just as good)
Problem solved for now...

Re: StreamX versus Auralic G1

Decision made (probably). I'm a bit worried by the thought that the Aries is 'clinical'. As mentioned above my system tends towards clinical anyway and currently the balance is about right (apart from bass but that's another story) so sounds like the Aries might unbalance it too much that way. I als...

StreamX versus Auralic G1

There's already been some discussion from those who have chosen to switch from Cyrus to other brands for various reasons. My position is that because it's on old firmware I can no longer use radio with my StreamX. I've asked my dealer about a firmware upgrade, and he's given me a (quite high) quote ...

Re: StreamX and radio

The topic of charging for updates comes up at regularly intervals. I did contact Cyrus last time about my local dealers high charge for update and their reply was: "...Retailers are encouraged to offer it free of charge as a point of good customer service, particularly where they sold the unit ...

Re: StreamX and radio

You're very lucky - my nearest AudioT is unfortunately 140 miles away, and my local Cyrus dealer quoted me around £50 when I enquired a while ago.

My 'next closest' Cyrus dealer is 99 miles away so very little option.

Re: StreamX and radio

Thanks - my StreamX(Signature) is about 5 years years old but I still have the original firmware since I wanted to retain Tunein and anyway I can't bring myself to shell out for the latest firmware until I know it's ok. Sounds like it is so that's one option. I may be interested in the Aries (not th...

StreamX and radio

I don't normally use streamed radio much, so I had forgotten the fact that Tunein is no longer supported on the StreamX. https://www.cyrusaudio.com/forums/topic/the-n-remote-and-tunein-radio/ So no proms first night. Before I take my StreamX in for a ridiculously expensive firmware upgrade, can some...

I'm still using Bubble UPnP and that has all the functions you'd normally need and miles better than Cadence (but that's Android).

" Some people on here have spent more than that on a pair of speakers"

Some people have spent more than that on pieces of wire !

Beware: The need to update can strike at any time!

Re: Stereo Imaging, A technical Description

When at University, I attended a very convincing demo - we were taken into a darkened room, equipment behind a curtain, played several different sounds, and told to record whether the sound was from left, right, or centre of the room. We all pretty much agreed on the answers, but when the curtain wa...
