Re: Inexpensive DACs from the far east.

I built my own power supply but low noise Linear supplies are on ebay from about £45- 60. The unit comes with a USB to Concentric power plug so one can supply it with power from a USB connector. As Ive mentioned, I have further tests to do so Ill organise a test with it fed directly from a PC and le...

Re: Inexpensive DACs from the far east.

The Topping D50 I ordered has arrived. I have it up and running using a 5v regulated linear supply. Early days, but after 12 hrs running I have to admit Im gobsmacked at the performance. I cannot distinguish any difference between the SQ of the Topping D50 and my Benchmark DAC1 HDR via Cyrus Smartpo...

Re: Cyrus aPA 7.5 Monoblocs * 2 = £450 on AVF @ Devon

I can remember buying a pair of these on my Cyrus journey. First monoblocks I had. Good amps. These are well priced and should move quickly. Do we increasingly reflect automatically to the S/H prices on Ebay -- Remember the almost 13% commision paid by the seller so deduct that to get closer to the ...

Inexpensive DACs from the far east.

System changes recently forced me to look at replacing a DAC in my office system. Initially I looked at another Benchmark DAC as I used two already. The Benchmark DAC 1 is a good DAC but getting a bit long in the tooth so I was wary about paying too much for 10 yr old electronics. I have been lookin...

Wanted Smartpower, Linkpower or equivalent

Revamping my Office system and moving my Ncores /Benchmark HDR to my son. Looking for a Smartpower to tide me over for a few months untill I finalise the variety of options open to me. Anyone got a Smartie they want to move on or link power or 6 power. Small room 12 ft * 15ft so 50 watts will be ade...

Re: BelCanto CD2- SQ tweak

From my reading I consider the the error correction on a CD reader to be very robust. Error concealment is not as robust. The tests I have done used bit perfect rips from Exact Audio Copy and CD poweramp. I think the issue is bit to bit timing accuracy caused by the varying ( minute) vertical distan...

Re: BelCanto CD2- SQ tweak

I did say your head might nip ? It certainly has me thinking. My current conclusion is that we are back to an issue with timing as/if the disc moves in the vertical plane as it rotates i.e. a variant of our old friend "Jitter " I have now done comparisons with bit perfect ripped CD played ...

Re: I/C a pair of ian mac filters [SOLD]

Steve, These were developed a few years ago. It all startred with the usual debate about mains cables and how changing 1 metre of mains cable in a length of many metres from the local substation could affect the sound quality of a hi fi system. I had just retired but still had access to the appropri...

Re: NORD responds to to those who say their amps are too cheap

I remember when we suggested Cyrus look at hypex modules when they started talking about class D. A few of us built hypex to replace our MonoX. Nord are offering good amps at resonable prices . Not sure I would pay extra for CNC milled cases though. Do I detect a little OTT in their current webpages...

Re: BelCanto CD2- SQ tweak

I have been doing more delving into why these dampers work. This stereophile atricle makes interesting reading, if your head doesnt nip before you get through the 8 pages. Having read it today Ill re read in 24 hrs! My original comment re "error correction" should read "error concealm...

I too would never give my CC details before any trial. Can be a nightmare getting it cancelled .
I note a 3rd party is being used to store the CC details.
Why cant they put a 14 day timeout on their software like most others
