Re: 10 years of CD8x

I can appreciate your agony.! Is a £300 spend on an old CD a good investment ? Many years ago I was in a similar situation with my Cd8. I refitted a Laser to find it only lasted 3 months when other problems surfaced with the loading mechanism. One questions why someone designs a CD player in a case ...

Re: Switching to Naim (Well nearly)

I also use Flac and MP3tag. Its a very useful programme If a CD album art is not available electronically one takes a lo res Jpeg and copies that into the metadata via MP3tag Likewise with Vynyl transfers. I use an inexpensive Focusrite Scarlett 2 to go from analogue to Flac and Mp3tag to insert man...

Re: A last, long goodbye to Cyrus

Wow,some silly money being talked of ? and no mention of the three components that are interacting -Amplifier- Cable- Loudspeaker One should not look at cables in isolation. If I may quote from page 194 of Loudspeakers for Music Recording and Reproduction. There simply does not exist any ideal ampli...

Noisy mains

On your ipad or PC go to BBC News>UK>Scotland>Features and Analysis> The Transformers. An article which talks about a company trying to rid the mains supply of all the crap induced by Solar panels, Wind Turbines etc. The Photo in the middle of the article shows what is actually happening to our belo...

Re: Muscling in on technology!!

Thanks for the info , could be very useful.

Just watch the current rating. CPC sell quite a few and you can access the tech spec.

Re: Cyrus 8 xpd repair with wrong part (with schematics)

Firstly a fuseable resistor A resistor designed to protect a circuit against overload; its resistance limits current flow and thereby protects against surges when power is first applied to a circuit; its fuse characteristic opens the circuit when current drain exceeds design limits. ie the fuse blow...

Re: Cyrus 8 xpd repair with wrong part (with schematics)

Thanks for the full circuit diagram. no need to check the doide voltages. The 1 ohm resistors are in the input side of a voltage regulator that supplies the power amp so not critical if 1 ohm or .5 ohm or a bit of wire. The wire is undesirable and an unprofessional repair as one looses the Fuse func...

Re: Cyrus 8 xpd repair with wrong part (with schematics)

Id need to see the full CCt. If i send you a PM with my email address can you send me a copy of the service manual . It may be that the original 1 ohm fuseable resistor has blown and someone has lazily fitted a piece of wire and sold the amp on. The wire resistance will be less than 1 Ohm but how mu...

Re: Op-amp Tweaking

On reflection, I hope I havent gone OTT when talking about back emf . For those newer members who dont understand, this analogy may help its - High School physics. An electric motor rotates when you apply a voltage to it. The current passing through the windings of the motor generates a magnetic fie...

Re: Op-amp Tweaking

Can you be sure its an op amp issue ? Ive stuck rigidly to Bruno's choice of components for my N Cores. He's got the test gear most of the smaller boys dont have - and knows how to use it. I did find that minor tweaks to my speaker cabling allowed me to get the sound I wanted -which surprised me giv...

Re: I'm running Everything On Batteries, Power supply

I concur with what mojo has already mentioned. The two issues mentioned so far are how true is the SINE wave generated and what noise components are are running on it due to the electronic conversion process in your DC-AC Converter, compared to your mains supply. There is a 3rd issue where I would e...
