Re: Considering moving to Stream X2

The most simple stramning solution is one where you dont have to worry about UPnP servers, but only a file share. So why not Sonos?
Or wait and see if the new streamer BlueSound really is the Sonos beater that audiophiles dream of. It looks like that Spotify will be coming to it.

Re: Cadence update

Then I am also not impressed with Naim if you have to use special software that is either mac or windows dependent. Usually the procedure of updating a device is the following. ⋅ download the files a zip archive with the firmware. ⋅ Extract the content to the root of a USB key. &...

Re: Cadence update

I will never buy a Cyrus streamer as long as I can't upgrade the firmware myself, this is a shame since the rest of my system is Cyrus and eventually it might send me into the arms of another brand where the firmware is user upgradeable.

Re: SB Touch - speeding up performance on a NAS

I guess that you are using the web interface.

It is much faster using iPeng on an iPad/iPhone or squeeze commander on android device

On a PC you can use moose, but it is a bit technical to setup, it involves logging into your Nas using ssh or telnet and changing a file in LMS using VI.

Re: Music Tagging software?

I use Tag and Rename to do all my tagging and renaming.
http://www.softpointer.com/tr.htm
It can rename the files in a folder using the tags, don't know if it can do it recursive.
This is a great tagging program, but is cost $29.95.

Re: Cyrus Anyone

Never had more than 6, sold the DAB and are now down to 5. I never use the CD player anymore, so might get down to 4. My next upgrades will probably be speakers after I finish with the AV system and have fully recovered financially  :) In the future I would also like to upgrade the DACXP if Cyr...

Re: Hi-fi / AV cabinets with high WAF

What about this one, it has a modular design, and also has the option of fabric doors to completely hide the hif-fi, but still allow the remote to work.
Are the monox 300's that much of an improvement over the mono's. The 300's seem to be very rare on this forum especially which is surprising, maybe not much benefit if your speakers cannot take them!!
Or just rare among regular posters. I got a noticeable improvement with my ...

Re: STREAMX TO NAIM NDS5X

Sonys Tablet S sounds like a better alternative than ipad, because it has a infared transmitter build in and can be used as a multifunction remote.

Re: Bought a SB touch today...

Hi Matthew,

With the risk of contradicting my self, I have to admit that I am only happy with the 5 seconds, because I rarely use the Web Browser interface  :)

I use Moose on a PC because it gives me performance which I guess is comparable to Foobar judging by your measurements.

Re: Bought a SB touch today...

I have just timed Squeeze server performance while keeping my NAS busy with other tasks. (gigabit network, DS1010+, iMac) On the NAS was SABnzbd+ downloading. iMac copied 6 dvd images on the NAS to local HD at an avereage speed of 60 MBs. Opening link to Squeeze server in browser took 6 seconds to f...

Re: Bought a SB touch today...

Matthew I totally agree with you there is no real excuse for not redesigning the database. I is not rocket science designing a DB that small! And yes you have to add the cost of a powerfull NAS but then then you have a NAS that can do other tasks as well without performance problems. The added cost ...

Re: Bought a SB touch today...

I don't think you are completely fair to Squeeze Server when you say it is bad. The competetion is even worse features wise it is like comparing a pocket calculator to excel. It has a DB which gives much better fleksibility for searches. Some of the other streamers don't even have a DB. - I like it'...

Re: Bought a SB touch today...
Thanks - does the transcoding of ALAC to WAV degrade the sound in any way when compared to FLAC?
