Re: Speaker Cables and XLR

Gated reverb is an recording/engineering technique to trick the brain in to thinking that the drums are louder and have more impact - by adding an unnaturally loud but short reverb (echo) sound after each drum impact. However listening to tunes with this effect on a good Hi-Fi will give the opposite...

Re: Speaker Cables and XLR

The reason you won't hear many commercial tracks that have proper realistic drums is due to dynamic compression - this is applied during recording / mastering and reduces the transients or peaks from the waveform. In basic terms when someone hits a drum the sound very quickly goes from quiet to extr...

Re: Stranger Things - Netflix

Bit late to the party but started watching this recently and half way through series 1.

Can't really fault it - good characters, great acting in the main, 80's sci-fi soundtrack with a few modern (horror / ambient) vibes thrown in, and quality production / cinematography. Having a blast 8)

When getting into cables it's probably worth loaning some options from a dealer to see what you like and can afford.

Re: Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri

Echoing Richard's review. Saw it at the weekend and was really impressed. Well shot, great acting, nice understated soundtrack and a fantastic script with lots of black humour. We even liked the ending too.

Re: GDPR

This won’t be sorted for sometime and only just begun I know abit about this as I sell software to companies to help them remian compliant. The fines can be up to 4% of turnover or €20 million! There are many parts to the regulation but one key one is companies need your permission to allow them to...

GDPR

Presume everyone is getting lots of emails regarding the GDPR data law.... seems like there are 2 ways this is being conducted - 1) asking you to actively opt-in to future communications, 2) a message saying "we've updated our policy" Obviously companies going down the later route will ten...

A pair of x300’s will be with me tomorrow.

Just need the stream x dig now to finish it off.

I’ll post what I think about it, once it’s all up and running.

Sounds good, post some photos too if you get chance 8)

Re: Stereo 200 turning off at volume, more power? x300 sig?

My thoughts in addition to the excellent advice above. - generally SPL readings are discussed when 1m from the speakers, something to check. If you want 115dB when standing 9m away that's a different ball game! - headphones can sound very loud but you won't get that 'umpf' feeling in you bones as yo...

Chris - yes I've seen a few of Del Toro's films so had high hopes for this one.

Shape of Water

Mmmmmmmm Saw this over the Easter weekend and TBH both me and missus were not very impressed. It's all very nicely made with and had a good soundtrack but it was just one of those where it seemed less than the sum of it's parts. The completely predictable plot was the nail in the coffin. Usually qui...

Re: Piano

Always wanted to learn as a child. Was even offered a free piano by a family acquaintance but Dad said 'no way'. Still regret not learning 55 years later. Much too old to start now I think. I'll be moving to part-time working from the beginning of April and learning to play both the guitar I've had...
