10 years of CD8x

Postby jules » Thu Nov 08, 2018 3:35 pm

Well after 10 years of pretty much faultless running my CD8x has started 'not playing ball' more times than not when asked to play a CD.

Initially this started with not reading CD-Rs - I would re-insert and try a few times until this worked. However over the past few weeks it's now has an error more often than not with normal CDs. They initially 'read' OK and it gives the number of tracks and running time but then when I ask the player to start playing track 1 it hunts around for about 20seconds then gives up.

Any ideas or is it a "back to dealer" job?

Many thanks

It sounds like it could be the laser but will probably be compounded by years of crud built up on the mechanism and general wear. I had the same type of problem, had the laser changed and mech cleaned and it lasted 6 months.

Sadly, I would suggest retirement.

It's silver, it's not completely kaput, just gets a bit annoying when you have to load a CD 5 times before it plays properly...
