train strikes

Postby hifinutt » Fri Jan 12, 2018 7:15 pm

everytime i travel by train recently train strikes seem to be happening

Fresh strikes are causing more disruption for rail passengers in the latest 24-hour walkout over safety.

RMT union members at Northern, South Western Railway, Merseyrail and Great Anglia are taking action for the third time in less than a week.

The union says scrapping guards and introducing driver-only operated trains risks passenger safety.

But the rail companies have insisted the move is safe and already widely used.

Picket lines have appeared at some railway stations affected by the strike, and passengers are facing delays, cancellations and replacement buses in some parts of the country.

is there any end in sight ?

We have a train strike here in Paris on Monday..

I have never seen a guard on a commuter train here; we just gangs of ticket inspectors!

No end in site. Southern Rail have had this for over a year (almost weekly). It a straight political fight. No Guards means fewer Union members. Not good if you are RMT or support the labour side of things. Safety has been proved not to be an issue. Docklands light railway runs without guards or drivers - no accidents. Soon we will have pilotless planes, driverless cars and busses and driverless trains. Not taking sides - labour is important but this one is insolvable. People v technology. Anyone remember the corn laws? Luddites?
