Gary Numan Savage (songs from a broken world). A fantastic follow up to Splinter and without doubt his best album in thirty odd years. Complex, dark with brilliant lyrics and some belting tunes. My wife used to make me turn Gary Numan off but she loves this album so much she is coming to the Royal Albert Hall with me to see him with a full orchestra. If you’ve never tried Gary Numan give it a go.

Daniel Blumberg. Minus. Beautiful, emotional album if you want a taste watch his apperance on Jools Holland.

King Tuff. The Other. Funky psychedelia, from a strangely dressed American. A real curve ball and well worth a listen, particularly the second track Raindrop Blue, a footstomping great.
Main
Gyrodec SE, Original Live Silver mk11, Lehmann Black Cube, Benz Micro Glider and Stream Xa, DACxp Sig/PSXR, mono x 300 sig, xt400, Wilson Benesch Discoverys

2nd
Musical Fidelity M1 Clic, Chord Cobra, PP10 passive, Quad 909, Atlas Hyper, PMC FB1

Gade's string quartets. I have loved his symphonies for some time, but only heard the string quartets this year.
Britten: Peter Grimes. Again new to me this year.
Hans Rott: symphony. Big influence on Mahler, whose first symphony followed 8 years later. Not performed until 1969!

Ultralife -- Oh Wonder. Having been intrigued by their song "All we do" as the theme for the tv show Unforgotten, this is their second album of unpretentious music (available on Spotify).

Listen, listen: Introduction to Sandy Denny. Having been a fan of Sandy in her early days, this is a mix of her 4 later albums which has been very enjoyable. Folklore on pfm is to always buy pre-2005 recordings as the later ones were remastered and ruined.

My 3rd choice is a bit scary, as I'll probably hate it soon. It's one of a number of albums of 2018 recommended on pfm, but it's country and I'm not entirely sure why I like it. It's my current favourite on Spotify though -- Golden Hour by Kacey Musgraves.

P.S. I'm currently listening to the newly released album by the Carpenters with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. It's truly awful on Spotify and Richard Carpenter has ruined the emotion in Karen's voice.

There's the thing - I'm struggling to think of 3 albums that I would recommend. 2018 to me has been a bit of a barren year for good music.
I especially don't like these band+Orchestra albums that seem to have been common this year.
Win10 PC with Asset UPnP server/BubbleUPnP app on Android tablet

Malcolm McLaren and the Bootzilla Orchestra. Waltz Dancing.

I've heard some Malcolm McLaren suff in the past but the Bootzilla Orchestra are something else.

Callen24 gave me the vinyl when we met up last week and I played it today. Fantastic in every way - highly recommended if you like funky but genuinely skillful orchestral music.

the thing is, it would be hard to better some of their earlier albums, wouldn’t it?
