It

Stephen King's "It" finally in film form. Or rather, half of Stephen King's "It". This first part takes place when the main characters are children. The second half will be set 27 years in the future when the children return as adults. My issue with the film is that its been made for a young audience. The central characters are young, yes, but their dialogue and actions feel like they've been written by adults for children to watch, rather than genuinely childish actions and words. There are some genuinely scary moments, but these are interspersed throughout long periods of small-America teen-angst, and it just didn't "feel" like the horror novel I read back in 1989. Having set a tone for the first film I'm not sure how they'll translate that to the second half where the characters are now approaching middle-aged.

Not a bad film, just not the film I wanted it to be.
