its an utterly crazy price , they are NUTS to try that price . you can buy an exdemo pair of mark 2 for that price

a mint pair of mark one is worth about 1200-1300 at a push , one chap on aos had some and trouble selling even as mint

Ive just looked at the invoice for my ATC SCM 40 Mk1 bought at the end of 2009- £1650 delivered to my door from the midlands.
20 % of that is VAT so the true cost was 1320 and they probably left the factory for around 990.
I can't believe the S/H prices being asked for all the ATC models. I have been looking for a pair of S/H 19's or 11's and have given up.

After a few hassles with ebay and paypal I now avoid ebay. Lots of chancers selling at inflated BIN prices waiting for suckers to come along.

Does the ATC forum still exist, used to be associated with Musicraft, may be worth monitoring prices there

What about this for a pair of PMCs then?:

Strangely nobody has snapped them up, and they have remained at exactly that price for about 6 months - maybe longer.

Is there an ATC forum? I must Google and see if I can find one.

Foe what its worth they were my speakers. Mind seems a bit of a price hike......
They're in tip top condition..... and great speakers.

I swapped them for a pair of KEF Reference 1'S. I was looking for a slighly smaller, profile.

KEF's may edge it but not by much...

Not true always, if you've already sold a few items through ebay you regularly get offers that cap your fees at £1 or £3. Shouldn't be seen as an issue unless you are buying from an ebay newbie seller.

Just got a bit of perspective, my next speakers will be Active 40’s. A well known dealer has offered me a pair for £5k at a demo session. And that was without me asking anything about price.

I guess the point is, dealers have space to move, never consider paying rrp.

The way it was put to me, it struck me as that’s the price they go for.

I’d spent an hour or so demoing them, asked the dealer about the 19s and why no one stocks then (seems that everyone goes for the 40’s). Said I’d probably want to look at 19s because were talikibg a lot of money, I need to be sure. He simply said he’d give me the 40’s for the same price as the 19s. No pressure or haggling from me, he just put the offer right out there.

I must admit I'm surprised, and it makes me wonder whether an updated model is around the corner?

The actives seem to be very rare - I considered them, but the premium over the passive model was just too large for me to swallow, so I went with the passives. The £3k difference in price would buy a very good external power amp, and still leave you with the possibility of amp changes in future.

Having said that, the actives do have a very good reputation...
