Inner sleeves for vinyl LPs

Postby argustimewas » Tue Oct 03, 2017 7:31 pm

Am anticipating getting a Project Record cleaning machine for Christmas.

What's the advice on the replacing the inner sleeves for the newly cleaned LPs?
Paper bags?
Polythene bags?
Polythene lined paper bags?

Would also appreciate recommendations of where to buy please.

I feel a labour of love is about to begin!

Thanks.

Hi John.

I have used these, from this supplier and have been very happy.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/p/mobile-fidelit ... 7675.l2644

The last lot I bought were the ones with the rounded rather than square bottoms. These were really awkward to use.

What I do is to put the record into the new sleeve, put the new sleeve into the old sleeve front end open and then put them back into the cover as usual.

Using the rounded bottoms made this difficult as they creased up badly.

I also use the Mofi ones. You can just about squeeze them in with the OIS without creasing the corners. It’s an art form.

I got a pack of 50 Mofi ones.

Plan is to use one after I clean a disc. Or for when I need one for an old perished inner.

I use these ones, and only keep the original if it’s printed.

I always replace the inner sleeve as the old one could be full of dust and detritus and have used these ones --> https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00 ... UTF8&psc=1 or something similar from Juno. I keep the original inner sleeve if they have lyrics or are unusual. I don't normally keep the ones which merely advertise other records. I also hold on to any black inner sleeves as they're not that common. I tried the MoFi sleeves but found them an absolute nightmare to get into the record cover.

I use the vinyl guru poly outer sleeves for all my records. Those are thoroughly recommended too.

Thanks all.

Will most likely go for the polythene lined paper bags.

Already use outer sleeves for the LP album art covers.

I have only had experience of free pvc ones that rough trade reserved stock have come in. How does poly compare??

I haven’t got anywhere near I can go and have a look at options. And I’m new to vinyl!!

Some people reckon the PVC ones can damage the sleeve. I use these. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00KS5 ... UTF8&psc=1

I use the Mofi ones as well, and I'm very happy with them. As others have commented, I use them after I get a record cleaned.

Poly lined inner sleeves seem to be a favourite. Mofi are as good but tend to be more pricey & can be a bit fiddly.
I've also used the japanese style poly inner sleeve (curves round the record at one end & is straight at the open end). They are useful for records such as 12" singles where the sleeve is often a little smaller & does not have the spine section.

As far as outers are concerned i've used the thicker pvc ones for over 30 years (oops - showing me age!). They do benefit by being available for gatefold covers & alot of albums come that way these days. Having said that a lot of people are happy with the polythene bag type.

I think i've mentioned them on here before but a good source for all of these items are http://www.covers33.co.uk
I've used them for years & orders often turn up next day!

Also advice needed on cheap drying rack.
Just realised that i don't have one, as it was an integrated part of the knosti hand system i had before, which i have now passed to someone else.
I already had l'art du son, recommended as a cleaning fluid
