A last, long goodbye to Cyrus

Postby SteveC » Wed Oct 10, 2018 6:35 pm

Yesterday I parted with my last two Cyrus components - a Phono Signature and PSXr2. On Monday I had a final play, finishing with Laura Marling's self titled album.

The good news is that they were bought by Dolan from this forum.

Now I'm eagerly awaiting delivery of a PS Audio NuWave Phono stage. That's a totally new system in less than 18 months, which included a lot of uncertainty and setbacks.

Tomorrow I'll be trying a pair of Townshend F1 Fractal speaker cables. Disappointment is guaranteed; if I don't like them, it will be a shame and if I do, I can't afford them. ::)

It’s just wire.

Try a real blind test with your current cables and I’d be amazed if you could pick the change over.

£2,200 per meter pair, retail?

IIRC, the most I've ever paid for speaker cable was £2.50/m!

I’m in the same boat as Steve, as we have both moved away from Cyrus. I borrowed the PS Audio Nu-Wave Phono Converter for a home demo and then passed it over to Steve. He came to the conclusion like myself that this would be a worthwhile purchase. Now we are both awaiting with baited breath for our new phonostage in the better sounding black.

oh my gosh , those fractal speaker cables cost more than the whole system !!

i do like my chord epic in one system but the system i have with van damme studio 2.5 sounds sensational . only just upgrading to 6mm van damme studio with wbt 0644 banana . i heard the UK premier of the magico A3 recently with some serious kit but i enjoy my impulse horns just as much with these modest cables
1]bc pre 3 vbs
msb s200 power amp
/vbs1 FM1 tuner
onkyo sacd , tannoy eaton legacy 2] schiit freya , firebottle hybrid monos , bc 3.5vbs, marantz sa8005 , reference fidelity impulse ta`us horns

The borrowed pair of F1 Fractal speaker cables arrived today. The difference is not subtle. Words cannot describe them, you have to experience them.

Was that tongue in cheek or are we in for another cable war?
If "expectation bias" does exist as cable nay-sayers would have us believe surely it would apply to any & all "upgrades" & we are all wasting our money by deluding ourselves that better is possible.

I will argue to the ends of the earth that cables make a (demonstrable) difference. BUT TWO GRAND? Different world to the one I inhabit
PS Please note that you can now spend the same on mains cables - guessing you will need at least four at two thousand seven hundred each, if after your purchase you feel unfulfilled.

I gree wholeheartedly, I just took an opportunity to try them. I suppose it’s like going on a super car day at Brands Hatch. Well, they can only get you from A to B can’t they!

I couldn’t agree more. I get fed-up with people trying to tell me what I can and cannot hear. The Chord cables demo at the recent Festival of Sound comes to mind.

Hmm.. does expectation bias kick in when you haven’t paid for the cables?

I’ll get out my Cyrus Soundcan. Oh, and mustn’t forget to buy those expensive fuses.
