Roon? No thanks.

Postby julianh » Sat Mar 16, 2019 5:20 pm

So I thought I’d take advantage of Roon’s 14 day free trial to see if it actually added anything to my listening experience. However on trying to sign up, I note that it’s one of those provide your credit card details and we won’t charge you for 14 days type of trials. Exactly the same as Amazon Prime. I still remember having issues with these types of “free trial” with AOL amongst others in the early days of the web when trying to cancel involved an very long phone call on a premium rate number. No thanks, I’m not playing that game again. They just hope you forget to cancel or cancel a day late when, as theirs terms say, they’ll keep your money.

If they had a proper time limited trial I’d give it a go, but not this way. Their loss not mine.

I too would never give my CC details before any trial. Can be a nightmare getting it cancelled .
I note a 3rd party is being used to store the CC details.
Why cant they put a 14 day timeout on their software like most others

I wouldn’t worry about cancelling because you won’t need to. I love Roon, far the best media player out there.,

I would not worry with Roon. If it was difficult to cancel then there would be lots of complaints on their forum.

So those of you who would never give out your CC details for a trial must have no streaming services.

As far as I remember Netflix, HBO, Spotify, Tidal, Qubuz all require CC ;)

You would be correct, no streaming services here. I have no wish to have to rely on an internet connection to watch TV or listen to music. And yes, I’m an old curmudgeon.

Then Roon is most likely not for you, it needs a internet connection to get the info about your music.
