Mark Kermode was raving about the film and gave it a huge thumbs up. I'll try and catch it on the small screen (but big sound) system in due course

Big difference between Bohemian Rhapsody and Rocketman seems to be that the songs in BR sound very close to the 'real thing' whereas on Rocketman they are interpretations (which I don't particularly like).

i usually feel the same, but a 5 year old elton singing a song he hasn't written worked for me. There are different orchestral arrangements of rocket man at different points too

I think it is hard decide whether you think it worked without actually seeing it

I’m not keen on magical realism, but again it worked for me in this film

That's because they were the real thing, weren't they?
How Rami Malek won an oscar for that caricature of a performance, I'll never know.

In that case, for me, that's the way to make such a film, rather than the 'RocketMan' approach

I saw Rocketman today and enjoyed it far more than I expected. I accepted it as a representation rather than an accurate biopic which is what is the intention.
