Re: Kii3

Very nice. Fascinating tech. There's a real buzz about these things at the moment. I wonder if dealers would be reluctant to stock them as they wouldn't see the customer back for upgrades. Regardless I'd be reluctant to give my money to that Keith bloke to fund his forum trolling. >:D So does the vi...

Re: HiFi Show Live, Windsor

Thanks for the write-up.

What the hell is going on with that speaker in the first picture? It looks like the jpeg has glitched ;D

It's a shame Chord didn't show off those new amps with a pair of PMC Fenestria.

Re: 5.1 system from stereo system

I'm fortunate enough to have surround sound and stereo in different rooms. If I didn't I may well have just the two speakers but mainly due to the space floor standing speakers take up. The surround speakers are wall mounted. They don't cut it for music but I'd hate to be without them for movies and...

Re: 5.1 system from stereo system

You can't go wrong with the Japanese brands in my experience. The smaller British brands don't always get the reliability and features quite right.

Re: Headphone setup

See if you can find a second hand Auralic Taurus Mk II. Wonderful headphone amp, particularly with my favourites, the Audeze LCD series. They're a little on the heavy side for extensive listening but sound incredible. I'm a big fan of planar magnetic headphones. Hifiman are also great.

Re: Audio Show - Woodland Grange

Lots of MFA fans here. They make fine preamps. I’ve only read one review of the power amp and they were politely saying they didn’t like it.

Re: How do I get started with Digital Storage and Playback?

It depends on the sort of music you listen to. There's a lot of seriously impressive high-res audiophile music out there such as the freebies you've downloaded. If you like that sort of thing, great, but for contemporary music, it's more of a minefield. If you want to know which is the best digital ...

Re: How do I get started with Digital Storage and Playback?

Fully "unfolding" Tidal Masters requires an MQA compatible DAC. Don't worry about it, MQA is *ll*cks. If you want a high res streaming service you need Qobuz Sublime I believe. Don't get hung up on "high res" though. Bitrate is meaningless if the mastering is poor. Often an earli...

Re: How do I get started with Digital Storage and Playback?

Your options are basically:

a) Use a computer connected to the network with media server software.
b) Plug a HDD in and transfer files manually.
c) Store your music on a NAS.
d) Buy a streamer with inbuilt storage.

Re: StreamX versus Auralic G1

Good to see others noticing a difference in presentation between Cyrus and Auralic. They don't all sound the same. The G1 is an attractive proposition at the price. It's a whole other world to Cyrus in terms of features. If the Spendor D7 are anything like the D9 they have a smooth, laid back sound....
