Re: Cyrus All In One Options

Honestly I'd avoid Streamline in this case. The streamer update to enable Tidal/Qobuz does indeed render the remote useless and they're not exactly brimming with functionality. No Spotify support. Naim have some nice products in this area but you'll need to use an app, same goes for most streaming d...

Re: Cyrus PSX-R conversion to 110v

You could use a step-up transformer. Hard to say what power rating. The manual says it draws 227W with an X-Power so you should probably get one rated at 300W minimum.

Re: what happened to Naim?

He has a point. They seem to have given up on the higher end and are concentrating on "lifestyle" Hi-fi. The Soundkey seems to have been well received after a shaky start on Kickstarter.

Re: A few observations on vinyl

180g is a marketing tool. I've got some great sounding thin records. It should reduce the chance of warping but quality control at most modern pressing plants is pretty poor so they're often warped fresh out of the sleeve. It's unusual to buy a completely silent pressing too.

Re: Vertical Turntable

Thanks to the spambot for bumping this (and for the happy ending). I actually have one of these. As an earlybird backer it only cost me about £250. I'll be honest, it sits on a table, rarely used and is more of a conversation piece (and it does get a lot of comments!) but on the rare occasion I do p...

Re: Kii3

Very nice. Fascinating tech. There's a real buzz about these things at the moment. I wonder if dealers would be reluctant to stock them as they wouldn't see the customer back for upgrades. Regardless I'd be reluctant to give my money to that Keith bloke to fund his forum trolling. >:D So does the vi...

Re: HiFi Show Live, Windsor

Thanks for the write-up.

What the hell is going on with that speaker in the first picture? It looks like the jpeg has glitched ;D

It's a shame Chord didn't show off those new amps with a pair of PMC Fenestria.

Re: 5.1 system from stereo system

I'm fortunate enough to have surround sound and stereo in different rooms. If I didn't I may well have just the two speakers but mainly due to the space floor standing speakers take up. The surround speakers are wall mounted. They don't cut it for music but I'd hate to be without them for movies and...

You can't go wrong with the Japanese brands in my experience. The smaller British brands don't always get the reliability and features quite right.

Re: Headphone setup

See if you can find a second hand Auralic Taurus Mk II. Wonderful headphone amp, particularly with my favourites, the Audeze LCD series. They're a little on the heavy side for extensive listening but sound incredible. I'm a big fan of planar magnetic headphones. Hifiman are also great.

Lots of MFA fans here. They make fine preamps. I’ve only read one review of the power amp and they were politely saying they didn’t like it.

Re: How do I get started with Digital Storage and Playback?

It depends on the sort of music you listen to. There's a lot of seriously impressive high-res audiophile music out there such as the freebies you've downloaded. If you like that sort of thing, great, but for contemporary music, it's more of a minefield. If you want to know which is the best digital ...
