Re: Google Chromecast Audio

This was on my birthday list but everyone in France seems to be sold out. Staff in Boulanger said that Google have stopped making them and had no plans to bring out a new model . I found one on ebay so this is likely to be my Christmas present. If you don't currently have a streamer, buy one...

I agree with that.

Re: Upgrade advice

I still have my old NP30, which I upgraded to a StreamX (only to match the rest of the hifi). There's very little difference between them in sound quality, and the Cyrus is a much bigger 'maintenance' overhead (e.g. having to take back to dealer for firmware updates). By the way, I suggest don't ev...

Of course it will taste better - we all know that spending ridiculous amounts of dosh on cables will, almost by definition, improve everything.

Lintone are doing a very similar deal - I'm guessing it's been sponsored direct by Cyrus.

Re: How do I get started with Digital Storage and Playback?

I agree that 24 bit files aren't always worth the premium cost.
I've tried all bit rates and rather than pay a lot for high res, I now simply buy and rip CD's.
My belief is as stated above, that the quality of the mastered recording has more effect than the final bit rate.

Re: How do I get started with Digital Storage and Playback?

I'm confused and need help again. My NAS drive seems to be broken. I don't really want to buy another one (just yet,) as the price of 24bit music is putting me off a little, circa £25 per album. I pay for TIDAL masters but as I understand the stream x sig with TIDAL built in only plays 16 bit files...

"If I own a 24bit album, will it sound the same or different on different storage drives? I think you may be opening a can of worms here, but as an 'audiophile' and long time IT technician, my opinion is that it will sound exactly the same. What is the difference between high quality and low q...

Re: What happens when the NAS fallsover

Hi I think most people who buy a NAS think Raid is a backup, well it's not. If you lose 2 drives then you will lose files. Now I have everything on external drives as a backup A very important point. You should always have an external backup. This is quite a good article on the subject: https://www...

Re: Is the dac xp sig a massive upgrade?

IMHO, No - the improvement is small - still worth doing if you have the spare cash.
A PSX2 power supply the same - small improvement.

Re: StreamX versus Auralic G1

"with the Bryston amp providing a little warmth I’m happy."

Strange you should say that, since most people seem to describe the Bryston as cold and clinical.
I would say it's 'accurate' so how it sounds depends on the rest of the system. I'm glad you've found a good combination.
