Re: dynamic range

There is a general assumption that a wide dynamic range is a good thing but this is not so in my opinion. In a concert hall situation live music would be heard in a very large space with plenty of damping from the natural acoustic and from the audience itself. Provided there is no background noise ...

Re: Static!

It sounds as if your TT is generating the static and then charging anything that you place on top of it. Can you ground your TT? Run a thin wire from your TT chassis to the GND on your phono or preamp. If it is grounded then you can use a thin strip of tin foil across the platter and in contact with...

Re: A night with Dave : Chord Dave

I gave up with HD800's. They did sound best to me via the SPL Phonitor but that's mostly because you can adjust parameters to make them less in your head and project a little.

Re: new car tax changes

But you'll pay far more tax on the Mustang at the pump doing the equivalent miles.

Re: A night with Dave : Chord Dave

Yes Antelope was mine - definitely improved by linear PSU. Off the top of my head, the list of DACs I've owned include -
Chord QBD76; Antelope Zodiac; Wadia 581i SE; Ayre QB9; Metrum Octave; Project RS ; DDDAC.

Not including demos!

Re: Is this the beginning of the end for MQA?

Probably best to just go listen for yourself as there's as many negative reports as there are positive about MQA. Whatever the technical advantages, or conspiracies, I'd rather judge it in my own system with the ability to A-B. However I'm just not convinced yet to give enough of a shit to go and or...

Re: Amarra/ Melco (again)

There could well be some technical advantage in having a ROON endpoint integrated, it could remove the need for USB conversion at the streamer and DAC end for example, and as a result it could also remove the streamer itself...

To be tested.

Re: dynamic range

Yep. Always amuses when some people brag about their expensive transparent set ups with studio like insight and then at the same time complain about how crap modern music sounds on it, with no sense of what they've just done.
