Re: A Night In With Tidal

Trials great for checking out new music and recommendations from other people. After vinyl it's my second favourite way of listening.

If you're making comparisons between cables remember to accurately level match to below 0.1 DB (you can't do this with your phone) as resistance levels between cables differ and even 0.1 DB can be detected by the human ear and make us think there are differences that might or might not be there.

Re: New System, Cyrus out ASR In

Congrats, lovely amp. Was recently going to buy the same but don't have the room for the insanely heavy 4 boxes!

Heard one though and it's magic, absolutely no noise floor whatsoever and so dynamics shine through. One of only a handful of non valve amps I'd ever consider owning.

Re: Wanted 3m decent RCA Interconnect budget £300

I would have recommended at one point, but all I'll say now is just buy something that looks well made and is expensive enough to convince you it's audiophile and dampen any paranoia that if only you spent more it would sound better!

Re: Wanted 3m decent RCA Interconnect budget £300

Can you use a solder iron? If so you could buy some quality plugs and whatever foo cable you like for about £100 and banish your paranoia about more expensive branded cables at the same time.

The future appears to be highly civilised hifi forums with very few posts and declining page views.

Re: general election 2017

Any party's manifesto that proposes repealing the ban on fox hunting gets an instant no from me whatever the rest of their policies are, so that's the end of any debate for me about May's campaign policies.

Re: Value For Money

My Impulse horns. Mid 90's and so very reasonable cost, and then spent the same again having drivers replaced and new outboard redesigned crossovers made.

Not perfect, but would have to spend really serious money to get a clear audible improvement on them.

Re: general election 2017

Classic 'it depends' answer coming up! The need for greater taxation issue does in part depend on whether you are trying to and are convinced by the need to run balanced budgets. Since 2008 there has been a fixation with this but I'm not convinced that given the size of our economy and generally goo...

Re: general election 2017

Both sides use numbers that suit themselves. The government uses the headline spend figure and critics will use spend per head. There's problems with both. Rising spend per head does not necessarily indicate that the budget would be used on things that directly benefit pupils - e.g. Maintenance, int...

Re: Upgrade

I think you're making too much of cartridge fitting and alignment which aren't difficult, just need a bit of patience, a protractor and a force gauge. If you're a TT owner I think it's worth investing the time to learn. Mostly it's just paranoia that puts people off :) No one ever regretted buying a...
