Re: AV receiver recommendations sub-£1000 ?

Thanks all - i went for the Denon AVR3500 in the end. Wired it up last night and it all sounds fine far - love how my existing stereo system is unaffected.
Now I just need my new rack to turn up and an electrician to sort out this mess of cables!

Re: AV receiver recommendations sub-£1000 ?

the award winning denon at 899 has amazon alexa etc, if you want to spend that much but i’ve just noticed you mention a sub, very important for films, so i might keep spending on an av low to maximise funds for a sub Currently reduced to c. £600 https://www.amazon.de/Denon-AVRX3500HBKE2-Surround-AV...

Re: AV receiver recommendations sub-£1000 ?

would i be right in thinking that the AV amp will be under less strain if only driving 3 speakers i.e centre and rear That's what I'm hoping someone will be able to shed some light on for me... Remember that the speakers are rated at 4ohm... It depends on the receiver. If it uses a common power sup...

Re: AV receiver recommendations sub-£1000 ?

I agree that you shouldn't pay for features you don't need but remember that cheaper receivers tend to have less power output. Home Cinema needs a bit of muscle as it's supposed to have one volume setting - loud! What are you driving the BBG with for stereo? I'm driving my BBGs with a pair of Cyrus...

Re: AV receiver recommendations sub-£1000 ?

Thanks! One thing I noted from a little light reading is that my front speakers are rated at 4ohm.

AV receiver recommendations sub-£1000 ?

After the revelation from a fellow CU user (thanks!) that I can use HT bypass mode and keep my existing stereo system while adding a 5.1 system for movies/TV, I'd be grateful for any advice on an AV receiver and subwoofer. I have Vienna Acoustics BBGs as fronts, Haydn Grands as rears and I'm about t...

Re: 5.1 system from stereo system

Been there, done that. Don’t. Short term “Oh that’s interesting/funny/clever, long term - Why didn’t I invest in better 2 channel That's what I originally thought. A close friend of mine is renting our house in London (We moved to Germany last year.... thanks Brexit), whenever I go back there and w...

Re: 5.1 system from stereo system

Re: 5.1 system from stereo system

Thanks! It turns out my Audiolab 8200cdq has a "home theatre bypass mode" which means you can connect a pre-amp out from an AV receiver to the analogue inputs of the cdq and use my pre/power amps for L/R. This sounds like the solution....

5.1 system from stereo system

Hi All For many years i've been resisting going down the 5.1/home cinema route but in the last year I bought a new UHD 4K TV, and I'm increasingly drawn to the idea of better sound (I currently have the TV optical out going into my Dac/pre-amp). I've seen some matching Vienna Acoustics standmounts o...

Budget wise, ideally around £2k. Mytek Brooklyn is on the list.

DAC recommendations

In the process of slowly upgrading my components starting from the source. Sonore Ultrarendu has transformed my system sonically and how I consume music (now mainly through Roon) and I'm looking to upgrade my ageing Audiolab 8200cdq DAC/Pre-amp - any suggestions would be much appreciated! Thanks, D ...

Re: Steamers / Renderers what is worth checking out ?

I got a Sonore Ultrarendu as a replacement for my Squeezebox touch (which is now FS if anyone's interested) - IMHO a massive leap forward from before, music has never sounded this good at home! I use Audivarna+ mostly and then Roon. Squeezelite and other options available. Even Spotify sounds pretty...
