Re: Thoughts on speakers...

OK so they're not Fact 12 good ;) but I heard the PL200 II on the end of some Cyrus kit and they were not what I expected from MA, ie. not bright! Very musical. That seems to be the consensus with the PL2 series, from reviews I've glanced at. Stereophile love the PL300 II. I would've demo'd those if...

That's quite a specific requirement so you definitely want to try before you buy, as tempting as a blind buy bargain may be.

Re: Naiming and shaming

Good to hear from somebody on this forum speaking in favour of Cyrus. And Fanthorpes. Great guys. Having heard/owned all the Signature kit, there are three competitive, standout products; the CDXT, the Phono and the Mono X 300. The latter do have some serious competition at RRP but are a second han...

Re: AV receiver recommendations sub-£1000 ?

I agree that you shouldn't pay for features you don't need but remember that cheaper receivers tend to have less power output. Home Cinema needs a bit of muscle as it's supposed to have one volume setting - loud!

What are you driving the BBG with for stereo?

Here's an option:

If you're in no rush, wait until early summer when new models come out and you can get last years cheaper.

Re: AV receiver recommendations sub-£1000 ?

I've always preferred the Japanese brands. I'm a Yamaha user myself. My advice is whatever brand you choose, buy last years model. They update these things every year but rarely add anything significant.

Re: Are we doing In & Out this year?

it looks like you are all about the vinyl I still listen to digital more, out of convenience. It's very hard to tap on anything that was recorded on analogue tape though as I know it sounds better on the black stuff. Basically it's taken some expensive turntable upgrades to match the "fidelity...

Re: Music new to you in 2018

I really love Low's Double Negative. Weirdly I'd never heard of them before and have since been listening to their older stuff which I don't like so much. They sound like a band that have taken 25 years slowly developing this record, and I look forward to what they do next.

Re: 50 years of Led Zep -your favourite album

While we're on the subject, I finally got myself a US first pressing of LZII, the fabled Robert Ludwig "hot mix" and gave it a spin this afternoon. I can definitely see why these are so sought after. Sensational. I'm not embarrassed to admit there was a tear in my eye during "Thank Yo...
