Re: StreamX versus Auralic G1

There are articles out there explaining why that’s not true, jitter, RFI etc (yawn) but it’s one of those things that you won’t believe until you hear it.

Re: StreamX versus Auralic G1

Different rooms, different systems, different ears. It's all subjective.

Digital sources do sound different to each other but less so than any other type of component (excluding cables).

Re: StreamX versus Auralic G1

We're talking minuscule differences in sound that you might not even notice. If you have a dealer willing to home demo then do it. I have nothing but praise for the sound of Cyrus streamers but they're a dinosaur in form and function compared to the competition and the UI is a big part of streaming....

Re: StreamX versus Auralic G1

I bought the original Aries to replace my Stream X Sig. I was initially really impressed by its transparency and the app is in a different league to Cadence but after a week or two I pulled the Cyrus from sale as on extended listening I found I wasn't enjoying the music as much and found it a tad cl...

Re: Goodbye to Cyrus (Almost)

Correction, it was the DCT 300 I didn't like. Not tried the F1.

Re: Goodbye to Cyrus (Almost)

It’s funny, I’ve changed cables and heard no difference but I’ve also changed cables and heard an immediate difference. It’s definitely component specific. The most impressive difference was when I upgraded the RCAs between a Hugo TT acting as a digital pre into X300 Sigs. Obviously a very important...

Re: 24 bit Streaming Help

High res music isn't necessarily better, it is often a marketing gimmick. It all comes down to the mastering. There are numerous examples of new 192KHz 24 bit remasters that don't sound as good as a 44.1KHz 16 bit rip of the original CD from the 80's. This is generally down to the current trend for ...

Re: 24 bit Streaming Help

Tidal Masters requires an MQA compatible DAC to fully “unfold” the files but it’s all *ll*cks anyway so don’t worry about that. Quobuz Sublime will give you access to high res but it’s very expensive. Your best option is to get a NAS, rip your CDs to it and download a few high res albums and build y...

Re: Goodbye to Cyrus (Almost) Me too

It all depends on what sound you’re looking for. Bryston are on the Hi-Fi accuracy end of the scale, I’m increasingly sliding towards the forgiving, coloured side. Looking at speakers again, starting with Dali.

Just to be clear, you weren’t using a standard RCA cable before were you? One of a pair.

Oh wow. Sadly these are just too big for my room but these are incredible speakers and rarely seen for sale in the UK.

Re: Turntable vs Streamer What's best? Analogue vs Digital?

Where should the belt sit on the motor, It has two places a larger grove on the bottom and a smaller one on top of that in the middle. I've got it on the slightly smaller one in the middle. Also, I've put the belt on the lower grove on the platter. Am I doing it right? Correct. The lower position o...

Re: Goodbye to Cyrus (Almost)

Dual Data Mode - Dave supports dual data mode on its BNC inputs. This is where a 176kHz data rate is supported by sending a left 88kHz signal and a right 88kHz signal via separate BNCs. For example this function is supported with our Blu CD Transport. To operate DAVE in dual data mode you should con...
