Melco N1A

Postby MiniCoupeman » Sat Apr 08, 2017 7:09 pm

Ok. Complete U turn. (But it is a game of two halves). First impressions, no bass, toppy, not as good as Amarra 4. Now this is an ex dem model so it never occurred to me that it would 'settle in'. It did. First the bad news. I still can't get the 'shared' folder to work. In short, I can only get music on to the Melco via a USB. This is a major disappointment. I may overcome it but it should not be this difficult. Plug n play it is not. If it were not for the sound I would have sold it. Versatile? No! BUT. Oh the sound .... I don't know what happened but all of a sudden - no gradual improvement al la a new cartridge - it started to sing. The effort of dropping music to a USB and then copying said USB to the Melco suddenly became worth it. A huge improvement. A jaw dropping, won't go back, everything I play now is via the Melco experience. If you keep your music on a remote drive, beg, steal or borrow a Melco. Give it a week to bed in and then try to return it.

When you say you cannot get the shared folder to work, can you not mount the Melco as a network drive on your computer? Are you using the native Twonky server or have you installed MinimServer?

Can't get Bubble because I can't get round - sorry forgotten its name but the program you need to download it. Apparently a known issue with Macs. I have a local LAN on which the Melco appears and the iMac appears - they talk or I would not be able to access the Melco to play via my Chord DAC. (Plugnplay app) But - the Melco will not 'see' any of my music files, remote or on the Mac
Mac connected by wire to LAN. Melco connected by wire to LAN. Remote HD connected to Mac.
Just (nearly) finished copying my entire library from SD cards to the Melco. Pain, but worth it

I am still not quite sure what you mean by unable to get sharing to work. My N1A appears as a network device in my Mac finder, I mount that and then can use MacOS copy/paste to transfer files from my Mac or other network drive on to the Melco. Getting files on to the Melco is painfully slow but once you have done it, it's fine. I use BubbleUPnP as a control point, there are iOS apps but none support gapless playback.
Are you expecting the Melco to see remote files and be able to play them?

Hello
Normally , the shared folder should appear in Windows , network pannel
And With melco , you can only use pt as a guest , not as administrator
Just map the shared folder on your computer
Then easy

A chap told me that if you install minim server ; then the Lumin app works
Will check that and report
Cheers

PS. It is Java won't let me download Bubble - On the Bubble web site when I click the link it takes me to 'instal Java' (Which needless to say I have done - twice!)

Sounds like a Safari issue.

Preferences > Security > Plug-in Settings.
Michell Gyro Dec, SME IV, Ortofon Cadenza Black, Project Phono Box RS + Power Box.
Aurender N100H, Chord Hugo TT.
Luxman L-590AX II, Dali Epicon 6.
