Yankees baseball 2017

Postby Czechchris » Mon Apr 03, 2017 3:47 pm

Game 1 of the season was on Sunday. Actually the first MLB game of the season.
Yankees in the first of 3 at Tampa Bay but lost 3-7. Bad start for pitcher Tanaka, but the Yankees had opportunities in the late innings.
Anyway 161 games to go!
Next game is late on Tuesday night here. C.C.Sabathia pitching.

As a Blue Jays fan I'm still smarting from last year...

I've been to the sky dome / Rogers stadium and seen them play with my uncle who lives there.

I watched the last few innings of the Jays/Orioles opener last night. O's won it on a walk-off homer by Mark Trumbo in the bottom of the 11th.
Jays had chances to ahead, Bautista at the plate with 2 on and 1 out, but he hit into a double-play.

Have a look at Manny Machado's throw from 3rd base on his knees to get a speedy runner at 1st. Highlight reel play, must be on the highlights on MLB.com. Ball hit at 110mph, he dived to his right and stopped it, then threw at 70mph from his knees across the diamond. Fantastic play.

Last night's game was game 2 of the series against the Rays (and of the season) and the Yankees were able to win it 5-0.
So the first win for Sabathia, who pitched 5 shutout innings, and pitched excellently.
Torreyes hit a 2run homer scoring Aaron Judge. It was hilarious at home plate as Judge (6' 7") waited for Torreyes (5' 8").
Chase Headley also hit a solo home run.
Tonight Michael Pineda pitches for the Yankees in the 'rubber game', see if we can win the series.

Pineda had a bad start in game 3. He gave up 4 runs in the first 2 innings. Jakoby Ellsbury hit a solo homer for the Yankees in the 2nd but no more scoring meant a 4-1 loss.
A day off today and open up in Baltimore on Friday nght.
Saturday and Sunday the games in Baltimore can be watched live in the UK at 9.05 and 6.35 respectively.

A close game in Baltimore last night. Yankees had a 5-1 lead after homers from Sanchez and Holliday, but Manny Machado hit a 3-run shot to make it closer then Seth Smith hit a 2-run homer to put Baltimore ahead 6-5. And thus it stayed.
Severino pitched well for 5 innings and left with a 5-4 lead, but it ended as a no-decision for him and a loss for Tyler Clippard.

Once again the Yankees snatch defeat from the jaws of victory! Squandered a 4-1 lead to lose 5-4.
Bad news is that Gary Sanchez left the game with a strained right bicep! That could be big blow to lose the no1 catcher/slugger.

Tonight game 3 of the set in Baltimore at 18:35 uk time.

Game 3 was salvaged from the series so we leave Baltimore with a 2-4 record.

The game was really exciting. Balimore went ahead 3-0 but a 2-run triple by Torreyes and a monster solo home run by Aaron Judge tied the game in the 8th inning. Then the Yankees went on to score 4 more in the top of the 9th and Aroldis Chapman finished off the game for a 7-3 victory.

Today is the home opener at the Stadium in the Bronx, 6:05 uk time.

A fabulous pitching performance this evening by Michael Pineda. Perfect into the 7th inning. Yankees had built up a 3-0 lead; another home run from Aaron Judge. Then in the 8th the Yankees scored 5 runs as Tampa Bay's defence became shaky and the errors began to creep in.
So a win on opening day 8-1 but the real news was the terrific pitching of Pineda. :)

Team Record now is 3 wins - 4 losses on the season.

Jordan Montgomery got the start in tonight's game, his Major League debut. He pitched quite well, but gave up a 2-run home run in the 1st inning. An unearned run in the 4th led to his removal from the game with the Yankees trailing 3-0.

A terrible collision between Brett Gardner running full pelt to 1st base and Rays player Ricky Weeks Jnr, who moved into the base line, led to both players having to leave the game. They were both on the ground for a long time. Worst collision I have seen on the bases.
But the Bombers rallied - yet another home run by Aaron Judge, his 3rd in 3 games, which was a monster 436ft into Monument Park in dead centre!
So a win finally for the Yankees 8-4 evens their record for the year to 4-4.
Final game of the series with the Rays is Thursday at 6:05 uk time.

And the Yankees keep on winning!

A fantastic pitching performance by Luis Severino, 7 innings, 2 runs allowed and 11 strikeouts (a career high).
Offence provided by Aaron Hicks, two home runs one left handed and one right handed accounted for the 3 runs the Yankees needed. Aroldis Chapman got the save, reaching up to 103mph!

Season: 5-4.

Tonight St Louis Cardinals come to the Bronx.

So the Cardinals came in to face our ace pitcher Tanaka. 1st inning they hit a 2-run homer, but we countered with a 2-run homer of our own by Starlin Castro. Austin Romine hit a solo shot in the 2nd to put the Yankees ahead 3-2, then drove in the 4th run. Aroldis Chapman came in for the save in the 9th. So a final score of 4-2 to the Bronx Bombers!

It was a good game, very close all the way through.

Season record now 6-4.

Early game Saturday, 6:05 uk time.

And another win. Another close game too. C.C.Sabathia pitched excellently, 7.1 innings before giving up a run!

With Chapman and Betances unavailable to pitch, having pitched in the the last 3 games, it was left to others in the bullpen to step up and we finally won 3-2.

Now 7-4 on the season.

Tomorrow's game is televised nationally in States, so does not start until 1am uk time. One for me to watch on Monday morning.

Winning streak extended to 7 games by an emphatic 9-3 win over St Louis last night.
Greg Bird had a great night, hope that will kick-start his season after a slow start. Tood pitching from Pineda and Betances, but a little blip in the 9th by Bryan Mitchell; gave up a run and put men on base.

Now 8-4 on the season. Long way to go though, 150 games left. White Sox come to Yankee Stadium tonight.

8 in a row!
We beat the Chicago White Sox 7-4 last night. A 3-run homer by Matt Holliday, and the 4th homer of the season by Aaron Judge, a 2-run shot.
Brilliant pitching by Jordan Montgomery in just his second start in the Major League. 6+ innings and 3 runs allowed. He shutout the Sox for 6 innings, but gave up a 3-run home run in the 7th with nobody out.

Now 9-4 .
