Hifinut

Looking for something around quality of a Chord signature rca, I appreciate cost of cable doeskin mean value for money. So you recommend them then? I've never heard of these before.

yes i have chord signaute digital . the mercury use the latest eichman plugs and are excellent . to get a signature in 3m is very rare and expensive [ i had one once and made 3 x 1m interconnects chord terminated]

chord mercury are nicely made and sound excellent for the money . you will find lots of people like RFC cables

Can you use a solder iron? If so you could buy some quality plugs and whatever foo cable you like for about £100 and banish your paranoia about more expensive branded cables at the same time.

No, but have people I know who can, what plugs & cable would you recommend?

I would have recommended at one point, but all I'll say now is just buy something that looks well made and is expensive enough to convince you it's audiophile and dampen any paranoia that if only you spent more it would sound better!

As others will attest, I believe cables make a difference. I use Tellurium for speakers ( and just brought some s/h XLR's from a CU'er) and am VERY impressed with a Chord Didgital which is in use. I borrowed some Chord RCA to RCA - can't remember the name but £500 is a pair. I compared them directly with my already installed Custom Cable 'blue' RCA to RCA and they sounded exactly the same. The Custom Cable RCA's cost £80.

Stereo or digital?

I have a 3 metre chord signature but it's a single cable.
CD XT sig / Aurender N100h  (Synology NAS) >  Chord Hugo TT > Mono X300 signatures > PMC 23
Sony PS 6750 > Pro-ject RS phono > Pro-ject RS pre and power
Grado GS1000e / 325e
Real name = Steve

If you're making comparisons between cables remember to accurately level match to below 0.1 DB (you can't do this with your phone) as resistance levels between cables differ and even 0.1 DB can be detected by the human ear and make us think there are differences that might or might not be there.
