Bluesound sample rates

Postby matt1971 » Sat Mar 18, 2017 6:52 pm

ive just bought a Bluesound node 2 which Ive been using with Qobuz Sublime. its connected via toslink to a Pre Dac. The sample rate always shows as 44khz even on hi res tracks. Ive checked the login to Qobuz in the Bluesound app and its set at 24 bit. Any clues?

I have 96kHz/24bit streaming enabled, and am playing the hi-res stream, but still it appears as 44kHz. As soon as the TOSLink is connected the PreDAC shows 44.1khz, maybe I'll try coax again, see if that helps.

Main reason I bought this (over the sonos) was the higher sampling (to try and future-proof my system a bit) so would like to know how/if this is possible.

On the sound quality, I think it's pretty good. Not as good as the DAC in the PreDAC when I compare it's analog output with digital. The PreDAC sounds far better defined in my opinion. The BluOS software is quite good also.

I've had 96kHz out to my Classé Sigma SSP from the Node II, so either there's a set up issue or Qobuz is the limiting factor.

As for its comparison to the Moon Mind 180, as good as the Node II is, it can't match the Neo Ace streaming amplifier for overall sound quality when streaming music. Obviously a demo is the way forward to assess the two directly.

I believe the 24/96 refers to streaming from your locally stored files, tidal does not stream 96hz, neither does qobuz. As far as I'm aware
cyrus stream X2, CDi, Oppo HA-1SE, IMFs, mfa Baby classicV2, Mono X300,  VA Beethoven Baby Grand
ML binarystar digital, DenchXLR, RFCneptune RCA, VanDamme OFC spk cable. AG 500 ac regenerator and Townsend Seismic sink stand.
rega P3-24, psu, AT95e/paratrace, Clearaudio nano, Project RCM

When you stream MQA from the Tidal desktop app the output can be 24/96.

I guess i knew that , but neither person saying they are getting a 44hz output has mentioned they are doing that, I assume they are refering to the "regular" stream

Nope, that's from TIDAL, streaming MQA.

Is it that the bluesound is limited in what it can output of its optical or coax output or its software is limiting it somehow? If I plug a mini mac into my Marantz hd-amp1 with Tidal and Qobuz I see all kinds of non 44.1 rates, but via the Bluesound only 44.1

Scrap that comment, have just had another play, played local FLACs and got 192 via both optical and coax, tried Tidal and Qobuz again and found many non 44.1, Tidal 'The Smiths', Qobuz, the Sublime+ playlist has a few non 44.1's on there also..
