CD v Streamer

Postby MiniCoupeman » Mon Apr 17, 2017 5:05 pm

I read a review recently that suggested that streamed music - Tidal etc or from a NAS - was potentially better than CD (assuming the same bit rate) I won't go into the augument but has anyone compared, for example, Cyrus Streamer with the top CD Sig transport? Sorry if I missed this but I am contemplating a 'last' CD player/transport and having purchased the Melco, I wonder if I should save my money.

Hi

I recall on my anniversary system, I found the cd player sounded better than the streamer, but only at cd bit rate. As soon as you put on something with higher bitrate on the streamer then it changed the other way. Wasn't a huge difference but could tell the difference when playing.

all subjective of course....

For me its not a case of out and out sound quality - I have vinyl for that. The convenience and different listening style that comes from streaming, especially with Tidal integrated means that I've not had a CDP for many years now and have no intention of ever going back to one.

I do like my cd players , trying to get a Marantz sacd at the moment . however got the lion soundtrack on now via a sonos via Spotify premium and its pretty good . in fact its excellent . for some years I have suffered drop outs on the sonos but after moving the bridge a good way [ about 3 metres] from my router . its been first class with no drop outs

I have had a msb cd transport and it was good but only you can decide whether its worth investing in one .

Ok. Got it - and thanks. The general impression- not 100% but....) seems to be in favour of a good transport/cd player so I will have to bite the bullet. I have kept my box sets and ltd edition CD's and to be honest, I enjoy handling them. CD sig transport on the audition list (with Mohecain (Helco) and whatever comes up s/h

+1 excellent idea but ES "7" series please and hopefully you can find a reasonably priced laser head for backup.

audioworks in Cheadle have a lovely accuphase dp410 . this brand seems to attract a lot of adulation and obviously you get dealer backup. I would be very tempted by it but thanks to mr Osborne one is strapped for cash !!!! [ he has bought in lots of new taxes :'( ]
