Dual X-Power or dual Mono-X ?

Postby dan.s » Wed Apr 19, 2017 11:58 am

Dual X-Power price: €1200 for pre-owned. €1800 brand new.
Dual Mono-X price: €1200-1500 for pre-owned.

What do you recommend? Which combo is better? Why?
Thank you very much!

I went from dual SP+ (equivalent to 8 power) to dual Mono X - massive improvement especially clout in bass.

A few people prefer X-power with PSX-R but this may be more expensive option. Most people have gone to more recent Mono X.

Buy in UK as cheaper than mainline Europe if you can.

I preferred mono X's over the X powers with PSX-R's. (But Nord wins).

The X powers with PSX-R where very good, the bass was massive and made me smile on my Dynaudio X32 speakers.
The floor boards & sofa really vibrated, so was a aware of upsetting the neighbours. The mid-bass gave reassuring smooth welcoming warmth. But felt this covered over some detail.

Moving to Mono X's instantly showed lovely clearer channel separation, the mid-bass was more flat/natural, so the details where clearer & present. The bass was better controlled.

Now using Nord One UP SE. I love the so natural sound and massive stereo imaging. The sound no longer comes out of the speakers.

Lol, that's made me laugh :-)
But the stereo field is way above X powers and Mono X's capabilities ❤️

Ive listen to the Nad M2, which is using the same Hypex NCore as Nord.
Sure, wide stereo field and a very resolute sound indeed.

But still cold.

I went through the same question/upgrade path as you and ended up with mono-x's. Very happy, although having built up the system, I am starting to have itchy feet and have started thinking about V2. Signatures probably still a bit prices for me, or are they.......
