What's the point of wireless speakers?

Postby zippy » Sun Jun 18, 2017 8:45 am

OK so maybe I'm being thick (again) but what do you gain by using wireless speakers ?
In my room (and I suspect most rooms) you'd be replacing the relatively easy to install speaker cables, with much more difficult to locate mains cables unless you just happen to have mains sockets exactly next to the speakers.
All this let alone the possible degradation of the sound.

They're aimed at a different market Zip.

Fair enough, though they're not always cheap:

KEF LS50 - £1,999 - those are the ones that got me thinking..

Not every prospective buyer of hifi is a paranoid OCD neurotic obsessed with chasing inestimably small and largely imaginary gains in audible sound quality :)

Lots of buyers will happily trade the benefit of no wires with sound quality differences that they may not care too much about.

Wireless speakers for the rears on a surround sound installation makes a lot of sense to me.

I have a friend who I recommended the KEFs to. He loves music, has a grand piano in his 'front' room, but never had time for proper hifi. ( prefers live) Sorted in piano black gloss.
Oh and in answer to your first question- do you have a bathroom?

Wireless speaker in bathroom is surely safer than alternatives?

Bearing in mind that I was talking about mains powered wireless speakers such as the KEFs, definitely NOT !

But that's the point of the OP there CD. They is no trading of wires for sound quality. There's just replacing wires carrying signal with wires carrying electricity.

Possibly cross purposes again.

The OP mentioned possible degradation of sound. I said that may not be a consideration for the target buyer.
