I contacted the UK distributor for PS Audio, who told me that burn-in can take 400-500 hours, and so it looks like I have a long wait.

In reality, I expect I'll get 90% of the performance in 100 hours or so.

The final piece in the upgrade puzzle arrived today, a Melco N1ZH60/2 music server. I'll use the existing NAS for backup.

That's a huge amount of change very quickly Steve. Hopefully the PS Audio starts sounding like the highly regarded bit of kit it undoubtedly is very soon. Throw in the Melco and the Brystons and wow! Did you see the add on the forum for the VA "The Music"? ;) ;D

I don't appear to be able to load pics anymore. I'll have another go.

Starting to notice positive changes on the DSD DAC. Hopefully not too long now. I haven't tested the Melco yet as it has been importing music files for 30 hours.

Yes,The Music looked tempting, but I'm pretty maxed-out now.

Change is good. :-\

After some weeks with my new system everything now seems to have settled down. However, there was one hiccup, I bought a couple of TQ ULTRA Black XLRS from Gary on this forum (sorry Gary) and, unfortunately they didn't suit the system at all. They seemed to suck out the lower mid-range and the bass. This was very strange as I have the Ultra Black speaker cable, which is great. I'm sure that in a different system they would sound wonderful. I've read that the DirectStream DAC is particularly sensitive to interconnects.

After a couple of weeks perseverance I put the old cables back in (Linn Silver between DAC and pre and TQ Black between pre and power) and everything was fine. As icing on the cake, I bought a pair of Townshend F1 Fractal XLRs on eBay and installed them between pre and power a couple of days ago. What a revelation, I have never before heard an interconnect have such a profound impact on the sound of a system. Words alone cannot describe the scale of the improvement. It was like changing a major component.

Now, let me think, I need another xlr and perhaps the speaker cable...

Have you tried these cables? If not you must, I sold all my really expensive Chord cables & replaced with these. Could not believe how much the Chord Indigo runed array cable were throttling my system. I also compared the XLR to 2k black Rhodium cable, no difference at all. These are a fraction of the cost. I don’t think I would buy any other cables. To really get extra performance you’ll need to spend thousands, which is crazy!

I would like to thank Hifi Nut for the original recommendations.

Ok bad choice of words! Bottleneck more appropriate.

It’s funny, I’ve changed cables and heard no difference but I’ve also changed cables and heard an immediate difference. It’s definitely component specific. The most impressive difference was when I upgraded the RCAs between a Hugo TT acting as a digital pre into X300 Sigs. Obviously a very important signal path! And guess what, that was TQ Black to Ultra Black! I also tried Townsend Fractal XLRs somewhere once and felt they did something funny to the treble and took them out. So yeah, it’s all system specific. One thing we can agree on is that TQ Black interconnects are very much a sweet spot in the range and rarely disappoint.

I’m very happy to have an integrated amp these days. One less set of cables to think about.

Correction, it was the DCT 300 I didn't like. Not tried the F1.

I had a pair of DCT300 XLRs at one point. They were fine until they developed a crackle. i sent them back to the manufacturer for investigation but they were never returned. Unsurprisingly as a result I’ll never buy any of their products again, new or pre-owned.
