Chord Qutest

Postby johnandvirginia » Wed Sep 04, 2019 6:58 pm

Just added a Chord Qutest to my system. So pleased with the result. Just need to upgrade the power supply for the ndx2 and I think I am finished!,

Had a Bel Canto dac 3.7 some time ago but recently using analogue out of the ndx2 into the BC Pre3.

Got to say I'm surprised (or maybe disappointed?) that the NDX2 doesn't sound as good as the Qutest. I know the Qutest is a great product with glowing reviews but the NDX2 was what £5K?

Is it dramatically different?

Difference between analogue out of ndx2 into bc Pre3 and digital out of ndx2 into Qutest and then into Pre3 is quite dramatic. It is as if the music has been re-vitalised. Interesting that on the Naim forum a number of members are using the Hugo and hugo2 with their ndx.

Now thats very interesting, i was in a Hi fi shop recently and the guy was raving about the dac in the ndx2

I asked him why the naim dacv1 stopped and that was his answer

at some point i want to try the naim dac v1 as they are volume controlled . Got a little teac ud ho1 at the moment and its not bad at all

One of the things that puts me off Naim is that you are paying for a supposedly very good DAC in their streamers (and CDP) when I already have one! Don't get me started on the weird cabling..

I am still really enjoying BC DAC3.7 into MF pre-amp even though I almost never change volume level!

I'm tempted to upgrade my 2Qute to either the Qutest or the Hugo TT2. Huge price difference between those two, obviously. Just waiting for an opportunity to trial them both in my system and compare.

However, even the 2Qute is superb in my system, especially into the Trilogy. 8)

2: JRiver->Chord 2Qute->Trilogy 931->HD800
3: Android phone->Mojo->HD800
3: JRiver->Audiophonics DAC->Cyrus 8 integrated+PSX-R->Audiovector Mi3 Super

i suspect the variable out put ofbthe qutest would make an even better match with your MFA , but your system doesn’t need improving O0
