Auralic Aries Mini

Postby argustimewas » Sun Jan 21, 2018 11:19 am

These are widely available for £449, but I noticed Moorgate Acoustics are selling new stock for £404.10 delivered free so I've decided to treat myself. It's my 60th birthday next Sunday so it's my present to myself. I also bought a 250GB Samsung SSD to install my iTunes lossless ALAC library. Hoping both will arrive by next weekend. I'll post my experiences setting it up and in use.

Arrived very promptly and securely packaged from Moorgate Acoustics.

Amazingly easy to set up and sounds great into my DACXP Sig on both coaxial and analogue connections. Have only used Airplay at the moment as my SSD has not yet arrived from Amazon so haven't loaded my ALAC iTunes library. Looking forward to having a bit of time to have a decent play at the weekend.

I've read the optional LPS is mostly of benefit when using the internal DAC in the Aries Mini and less noticeable when using digital out to an external DAC which is my intended use. I'll see if I can borrow one sometime to see for myself.

First impressions are very favourable.

I found exactly the same as Maro. I had to build a linear Power Supply to get it to perform closer to my expectations.
The difference in SQ was very obvious. I was using the Mini driving an external DAC (Benchmark DAC2). the music source was Flac on an SSD powered separately from a 5v supply from the LPS
I passed it on to a family member and it has performed reliably

It took about about 18 hours to copy my 1.4GB iTunes library lossless files over wifi to the internal storage I put into my Aries Mini and then I had a bit of fiddling about to get it all scanned and able to be recognised in the Lightning DS app on my iPad. Am pleased to report it's all working perfectly: all album art is correct, the app is easy to use and the sound is great via digital coaxial into my DACXP Sig.

The Auralic LPS is £250. There are alternatives from places like MCRU, Mark Grant and other UK dealers for around the same. Also, ebay options areavailable from China for much less. My preference is to go for Auralic, but it's not cheap. On the other hand it's a bargain compared with PSX-R1 or 2!

MRCU will likely let you borrow so you can judge how much difference. You pay, get your money back when you return it

Worth thinking about a trial. Might ask Moorgate if they have a demo Auralic to try.

Hello
HD plex may be a very good alternative , and usable for other purpose (LPS for a switch or NUC etc)
Cheers
