Nord Two SE ICE1200AS2

Postby Chrispgy » Wed Sep 12, 2018 11:38 am

I have been a Cyrus owner for over 15 years now and I'm starting to get that itch for a change.
I've been drawn to the Nord website and their amps appear to be gaining some excellent reviews.

I have a pair of APA 7.5 mono blocs and wondered if anyone has made the jump from these to Nord, in particular their new Nord Two amp? Nord are rating the SQ at 90-95% of their flagship model plus they are running a 10% discount at the moment.

Also if I was to make a change does anyone have an idea of the current values of my APAs?

Many thanks in advance for any opinions.

Chris

I would go for Nord One as 10-15% SQ can be a lot.

I think the sound will be very different to Mono X which is why I will probably go to MonoX300 or MonoX200Sig's in the next few years.

Yes you make a good point but the cost difference is several hundred pounds to the flagship Nord One.

There’s a Nord one up for sale on the worlds favourite auction site at the moment. Seller also has a Nord pre.

If you haven’t heard one yet, Nord leave cyrus far far behind, there’s no competition really. You would have to spend a heck of a lot of money to beat Nord.

There are a few other manufacturers that are going the same route as Nord. Hattor have a similar product, also I notice a forum member went for another brand, firebird, something like this, which again is similar. There are others for sure.

you might be thinking of my lovely firebottle amps . these are about the same size as cyrus but are in fact hybrid valve. they are very muscular and have all the advantages of a hybrid system

Possibly. Of course these aren’t OEM Hypex class D so should be struck off the list. There are many smaller manufacturers making amps with these hypex modules now, the task is just hunting them down.

i would suggest you actually get to listen before buying.
it really is a matter of taste.
having heard two different class d amps i didn’t like them.
I suspect without the op amp s on my NORD se i wouldn’t like that either. i wouldn’t advise spending a few hundred less, go the whole hog.
But the runnning in time was long, before i became convinced.

Thank you all for your advice.
I'll try and line up a demo as Cheltenham and Nord are not too far from me.

Will do!
I'm going to list my APA7.5 amps here to help fund a purchase.
Just need to pay my £10 and they'll be in the classifieds

I did that. Apa7.5 to Nord one up. Night and day. One of the most significant upgrades I have made.

Good to hear that.
My APA 7.5s are now in the classified ads with pictures.

Icepower & Ncore alternate supplier

Are there any none dealer opinions of ICE1200AS VS Ncore?

The drifting around I've done seems to be favourable to ICE1200AS but I've not done much research yet.
